Just heard this from a speech.

If you have a foot on the past, a foot on the future, and then you are pissing on today.

387890ffdc5f3ccfcc46f35553e0af53 Ceramic Dixie cup from Dutch designer Rob Brandt

If I’m ever going to start a coffee shop, this will be my choice for coffee cups.

An interesting design resembling crumpled up Dixie disposable cups.
Dutch designer Robert Brandt(1946 Gorssel, The Netherlands) has been an interesting figure in ceramic design.

In memory of those incredible minds

  • Blaise Pascal  June 19 1623 - Aug 19 1662

Even though he is best known as a mathematician by most, he was also a philosopher at the same time.
His famous work in philosophy is called “Pensées”, a collection of personal thoughts on human suffering and faith in God. Of which, ‘Pascal’s wager’ claims to prove that belief in God is rational with the following argument.
“If God does not exist, one will lose nothing by believing in him, while if he does exist, one will lose everything by not believing.”

Coming soon.

What pops up in your mind? Newton?
46e3b11ae388b5652b97017527657e2b The stupidest Apple product ever is..

Erm, no. Not even close to the stupidity of the Apple Mighty Mouse.

The design of this mouse is brilliant, if you call reusable condoms brilliant.

I have to keep my hands tidy when using it, but the trackball still inevitably stops functioning in a week or so. I can’t even begin to add up how much time I wasted “cleaning” the trackball, which in other words means furiously moving it while holding the mouse upside-down, per Apple’s weak “cleaning instructions.” Eventually I couldn’t take it anymore.

So I decided to give it a thorough clean from the inside.

So I opened it.

And the result is shown in the photo above. I broke it.

Alas, design a better mouse, will you Apple?

Update: Now I went back to my good old Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 again. And I’m happier than ever.
Update 2: Actually it took me several minutes to configure the mouse setting, since I lost the original software came with this mouse. After a bit of searching I found this guide which is quite useful for all those who want to use Microsoft keyboard & mouse on Macs. The software is here.
Update 3: The receiver of my Laser Mouse 6000 has some problem. The cursor keeps moving around even when the mouse itself is up-side-down. Worse still, I also ran out of batteries. So I eventually bought a Logitech G5, the best mouse I’ve ever owned. G5 is meant to be a gaming mouse but I found it also great for graphic designs. There’s a in-depth review here from Ars Technica. Notice that in Page 4, the author of this review gave out a solution for G5’s lack of the Mac driver issue.

This is a photo taken by Phoenix, on Mars.

Phoenix touched down on the Red Planet at 4:53 p.m. Pacific Time (7:53 p.m. Eastern Time), May 25, 2008.

According to NASA:

This image shows a polygonal pattern in the ground near NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander, similar in appearance to icy ground in the arctic regions of Earth.

Very nice photo indeed. Good job NASA.

Myspace is called Facebook now

This is an ad appeared on this site. A proof that Myspace has always wanted to be Facebook, serectly.

 Update:There’s more funny AdWords here, here and here.

P.S. The winner is “Sell your kids on eBay” from eBay. It seems that you can also buy a “new grandma”, “love” and even a “new brain” from there. Running out of money? No worries, eBay says you can “Sell your soul on eBay”.

Pure genius.

Quake 3: Arena

 float InvSqrt(float x){

    float xhalf=0.5f*x;

    int i=*(int*)&x;

    i=0×5f3759df - (i>>1);

    x=*(float *)&i;

    x=x*(1.5f-xhalf*x*x);

    return x;
}

Analysis coming soon.

A little bit Google searching got me the usage of this Inverse Square function in Quake 3. Mind you it was written prior 2000.

The Fountain

Our bodies are prisons for our souls. Our skin and blood, the iron bars of confinement. But fear not. All flesh decays. Death turns all to ash. And thus, death frees every soul.

May the victims rest in peace.

fa6b21fe28bb77d2f67bc2c13def917d Tiny Discrete Thought on Morality from a Biological/Anthropological Perspective(Part I)
Introduction

I’ve been meditating everyday throughout my life. All too often the meditation itself ends up with confusion and sometimes frustration. I’m not a smart person as I claim so, I confess. But believe it or not, I eventually come to some concrete thoughts that I thought I may share with you, and by “you” I mean “mankind” or “humanity”.

This may explain my outrageously courteous picks of words here: “Tiny” and “Discrete”. Well, let me make myself clear here before you get mad at me. By the word “Tiny” I mean it’s not a solid theory yet, and perhaps it never will be. It may be deeply flawed in a way that there might exist a lot of seemingly counter examples that I fail to cover up. And by the word “discrete”, I’m saying that my intention of writing this is not to transform myself into a philosopher of any kind, but simply a measure of recording some random thoughts. I have no proof or statistic to back up my argument whatsoever. So read it just for the sake of reading.
