Too many times I’ve read about the LHC(Large Hadron Collider) in science fictions. It still strikes me as one of the most brilliant thing man has done. “The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a 27 kilometer (17 mile) long particle accelerator straddling the border of Switzerland and France, is nearly set to begin its first particle beam tests. ” →Link

Found this app in iPhone app store, absolutely useful for stargazers and star geeks. It’s $11.99 per purchase. “Pocket astronomers will find a screen that shows a sky full of planets, visible stars, named stars, galaxies, and nebulae, and coordinates that you can access and search for from an unobtrusive ribbon of icons. Sensitivity to the accelerometer tips the view vertically and horizontally, and you can pinch and pull the screen to get a closer look at the arrangement of the points of light.” Our review of this amazing app is coming soon. →Link to its website | →Link to app store page| →CNet’s review of Starmap | →Link to YouTube review

The Earth From Mars

The Earth seems to be a little lonely in all that darkness. A bit fragile, too.

51b5a3bc7ea8c155f3f40017573e519b Mars!

This is a photo taken by Phoenix, on Mars.

Phoenix touched down on the Red Planet at 4:53 p.m. Pacific Time (7:53 p.m. Eastern Time), May 25, 2008.

According to NASA:

This image shows a polygonal pattern in the ground near NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander, similar in appearance to icy ground in the arctic regions of Earth.

Very nice photo indeed. Good job NASA.
